Well this week hasn't been too productive, but I've gotten a few things done!
The best thing that I've done is got my YouTube channel going! Yay for me! I've got two songs uploaded currently: Avicta's Nest and George's Swarm! I need to work on refunishing the channel and replace the preset channel art with something a little more interesting! On the other hand, My Tumblr's been a little quiet so I should try to be more active there... Hmm... I currently use Photoshop and Movie Maker to put the videos together (I know, Movie Maker is kinda ghetto but it gets the job done.) Here's what they look like!
Now I want to talk about something else too. NGASS, the Newgrounds Audio Secret Santa. I'm in it and I'm happy to be composing a song for someone. It's coming along pretty well, I've encountered a few issues but they're being taking care of so that's good. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. Of course, I can't say too much or I'll spoil everything! So that's all you guys get!
The story is making progress, slowly but surely. I'm fleshing certain concepts out and creating themes and motifs etc. I'll keep you guys updated if anything significant happens.
Since this week has been pretty uneventful, I wanted to talk about some electro swing. It's quickly becoming one of my favourite genres. It spwaned from neo-swing which was a 1980's era which saw an increase in 1920's swing. However, it incorporated elements of ska or rock. Electro swing takes 1920's swing elements and incorporates them into modern day musical motifs (i.e. hip hop, house etc.) with modern instruments. Drums in this genre tend to have a little 'swing' at the end - instead of having a four-to-the floor drum style, you'd have this swing effect. It's hard to explain in words but listen to some electro swing and you'll see what I mean. That's one of the defining characteristics of swing in my opinion. But you still have your saxaphone, brass and clarinet. Falling in about any range of common tempos, there's really so much to do with electro swing. The swing! The synths! It's really a cool genre nearly matching my love for drum n bass or glitch hop. I could go on and on about my favourite genres but I won't to keep this post short. I'm not sure why I enjoy talking about genres but I do. Maybe you guys will be opened to some musical genre you haven't heard before, maybe not. But it's something I enjoy talking about.
So little group of followers, what's you're favourite genre? Why do you like it so much? I figure if I expose myself to multiple genres, I can improve as a composer which is ALWAYS a benefit! Just don't mention extratone... please... I might cover why I dislike it so much some other time as it's pretty much my only disliked genre. All other genres that I've heard I enjoy! I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys enjoy! I might talk about music genres a little but at the end of my posts if they're short just because I enjoy talking about them. Of course, only if you guys are interested in what I have to say of course! I'm all about what you guys think so feel free to as they say "spill your thoughts"! Thanks for reading guys! Stay bold, stay focused, and stay awesome!
