Yeelp's News

Posted by Yeelp - December 4th, 2015

Well this week hasn't been too productive, but I've gotten a few things done!

The best thing that I've done is got my YouTube channel going! Yay for me! I've got two songs uploaded currently: Avicta's Nest and George's Swarm! I need to work on refunishing the channel and replace the preset channel art with something a little more interesting! On the other hand, My Tumblr's been a little quiet so I should try to be more active there... Hmm... I currently use Photoshop and Movie Maker to put the videos together (I know, Movie Maker is kinda ghetto but it gets the job done.) Here's what they look like!

Now I want to talk about something else too. NGASS, the Newgrounds Audio Secret Santa. I'm in it and I'm happy to be composing a song for someone. It's coming along pretty well, I've encountered a few issues but they're being taking care of so that's good. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. Of course, I can't say too much or I'll spoil everything! So that's all you guys get!

The story is making progress, slowly but surely. I'm fleshing certain concepts out and creating themes and motifs etc. I'll keep you guys updated if anything significant happens.

Since this week has been pretty uneventful, I wanted to talk about some electro swing. It's quickly becoming one of my favourite genres. It spwaned from neo-swing which was a 1980's era which saw an increase in 1920's swing. However, it incorporated elements of ska or rock. Electro swing takes 1920's swing elements and incorporates them into modern day musical motifs (i.e. hip hop, house etc.) with modern instruments. Drums in this genre tend to have a little 'swing' at the end - instead of having a four-to-the floor drum style, you'd have this swing effect. It's hard to explain in words but listen to some electro swing and you'll see what I mean. That's one of the defining characteristics of swing in my opinion. But you still have your saxaphone, brass and clarinet. Falling in about any range of common tempos, there's really so much to do with electro swing. The swing! The synths! It's really a cool genre nearly matching my love for drum n bass or glitch hop. I could go on and on about my favourite genres but I won't to keep this post short. I'm not sure why I enjoy talking about genres but I do. Maybe you guys will be opened to some musical genre you haven't heard before, maybe not. But it's something I enjoy talking about.

So little group of followers, what's you're favourite genre? Why do you like it so much? I figure if I expose myself to multiple genres, I can improve as a composer which is ALWAYS a benefit! Just don't mention extratone... please... I might cover why I dislike it so much some other time as it's pretty much my only disliked genre. All other genres that I've heard I enjoy! I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys enjoy! I might talk about music genres a little but at the end of my posts if they're short just because I enjoy talking about them. Of course, only if you guys are interested in what I have to say of course! I'm all about what you guys think so feel free to as they say "spill your thoughts"! Thanks for reading guys! Stay bold, stay focused, and stay awesome!

What a week... I think part of me died inside. The stress from this week has been really intense but I made sure to at least post this week! School's getting hectic as the X-mas break nears. So I wanted to get this update out and inform you guys on a few things! Let's get started!

First off, I'm happy to anounce that I have a new dance song coming out soon! It's all complete, I just want to add a few finishing touches before uploading it. I may go to the Audio Forum and post it as a WIP or something to get some feedback. But what about my other older songs that I haven't reuploaded with updated versions? I'm doing what I can in that department as well, fear not. As I mentioned before, this week was hectic. But slowly but surely, progress IS being made.

In my last post, I mentioned that I had a few issues coming up with ideas for Youtube visuals. I decided to forget the visualizer for now and keep it simple. Just a picture, caption and presto! So, my Google+ and YouTube will be taking off sometime next week! Hooray!

Lastly, I want to talk about something that's really exciting for me! I decided to branch out from just composing to also doing a little writing! As you can see, my avatar picture's kinda meh but the character you see there does have his own lore which I will be writing about. I've wanted to write this story of a LONG time and I finally got everything together to start! Well... sorta. I haven't started WRITING but I HAVE started brainstorming. Using Smart Technology's Smart Ideas 5 program, I can map out every little aspect of this universe I'm creating: I can map out the commoners, the protagonists, antagonists, settings, theme, motifs, etc,. I can map out the events of each chapter so I don't lose track and veer off course when writing. I'm essentially writing the book before writing the book - all I have to do after finishing up in Smart Ideas is connect the dots and make it flow. That way, the story comes out the way I want it to. I'm only doing it like this because I've had trouble in the past staying on topic... distractions come easily to me... But with this system in place, everything should go quite well! I'll keep you guys updated on the story too with every post.

So there you have it: my workload's gonna get intense especially with the story but it should be fun too! So group of 3 fans and anyone else reading this, thanks for spending your time to care about me! See you sometime next week! Stay bold, stay focused,  and stay awesome!

Well finally there has been progress, and I'd like to discuss how it's going! I've been uploading all my newer and updated pieces and replacing the older ones. Let me note here that I decided to UNPUBLISH all my older works until I have the newer version uploaded. I'm doing this because I'm not sure if the newer versions I have are the ones I want to upload. In other words, I might make changes to them. Until then, I'm taking the older versions outta sight until they're polished and ready to go. For example, my song Huedan's Blitz here a Newgrounds was a song I decided to unpublish. I have the newer version ready but I'm unsure if that is the one that I'm happy with. I hope that makes sense to you guys.

Here's one of the main things I want to talk about though: Social media.

I've cleaned up my YouTube channel to host my music. However, since I have no video editing software (Other than Movie Maker lol) I've hit a bit of a roadblock in getting the channel up and running. But let's say I use Movie Maker for the time being, what are my visuals going to be? I have no idea. I'm not sure if I want to just put an image up for the entire video. I WANT to have a visualizer (Similar to Monstercat and Tasty network). However, making one from nothing would be EXTREMELY difficult and it's hard to find one I could use online.  (Plus, I need to be careful and watch for copyright. Last thing I need is to get attacked by someone because I used thier visualizer in a YouTube video.) So I'm gonna ask you guys: Any ideas on visuals? I'd like to get the channel up and running ASAP.

Also, I've created a Tumblr blog for all things music related! However, it comes with some issues that need sorting out as well. The main problem is this: I suck at drawing. I'd like a unique header and currently can not draw my own art for the header. I'll probably have to find someone who's willing to make art for me. But finding someone can be difficult. I'm also cleaning up my Google+ so I'd need art for that too. Pretty much any image I'm currently using I'd like to get updated with something nicer.

If you'd like to check out any of these new social media places just check the links out to the left. I'm still fleshing them out so I apologize for any lack of design and/or content. I'm doing the best I can.

Thanks for reading this and of course if you have any comments, please share! I really do look forward to reading them! If you happen to want to do some art for me, a PM would probably be best but you can still comment about it too if that's more your style. From there, we can discuss it further. I'll check in with you guys within a week. Stay bold, stay focused and stay awesome!

Jeez, I'm never consistent and this is my worst yet. This is probably the third time I said I was gonna be consistent. But trust me - I will this time. Going off on many composing sprees really takes me away from reality. I have a few things I want to cover in this post: The past, the present and the future. So let's get to it!

First off I'd like to point out that my audio is gonna get COMPLETELY revamped - this includes my Soundcloud; all the changes made here will be made there too. Essentially I'm gonna fix what I have up now and replace it with better tracks. This brings me into my first point: the past.

In the past (And I'm talking way back, not quite when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, just a handful of years ago) I arranged tracks using a software whose name escapes me at this particular moment. Since those are arrangements and not my own 100% legit work (Anythings from Conquer the Stars album, Lost in Los Angeles and 2 of the 3 remixes. Any loops made using this older software will remain.), I'm going to take those down (More like hide them from the public/unpublish them) I'm gonna dedicate my profile to works that are solely MY CREATIONS (minus like one remix that I want to keep here.). IF you want a track that I have removed, just PM the name of the track if you remember what it was, if not then just PM and I'll send them to you in some way, shape or form. Furthermore, I've pretty much revamped all of my songs to make them better in terms of mastering, quality etc. So, songs like George's Swarm, The Science of Sound are going to get re uploaded with new versions of the song. If, for whatever reason, you want the older copy, I WILL have it and I can send it to you. Again, PM me.

Let's move on to current things. What am I bringing to the table today? I have more drum 'n bass songs and that 'album' (Yeelp's Uprising) if you will, is finished. So I'm uploading all the updated versions of the songs. Like I mentioned, songs like George's Swarm will be updated but newer songs like Gretel's Witchery, Darwin's Awakening and Super Fish!2.0 are being added. Take some time to check them out, I'm proud of how they turned out and I would be ecstatic if you guys enjoyed them as well. Also, a new song: Biohazardous has also been completed and can be grouped with the likes of The Science of Sound, Acids and Basses and Universe in Balance (The album is called The Science of it). Y'know, all those 'science-like' songs. I have another loop as well: The Technical Techno. So there IS new stuff coming to my Newgrounds page. I'll try to do as much as I can tonight but you know what they say: Rome wasn't built in a day!

And let's talk about the future. I'm currently looking at universities to apply to and I'm keeping music in mind. Who knows where I'll end up going but I'll keep you guys in the know. I'm gonna start taking this profile more seriously. I might kinda treat it as a blog and post once a week. That's kinda my goal. This applies to the entire like, 2 followers I have XD. But I plan to build this profile from the ground up so I might as well have some transparency with my 2 followers. I also suppose activity on this page will draw in more people so hey, it's a start.

So, small group of followers, if you read all of this, thanks. It means a lot. Let me know what you guys think in the comments it'd be nice to hear from you! I'll check in with you guys next week. Stay bold, stay focused and stay awesome!

It's been a while since I've uploaded music tracks to my profile here, but I HAVE been at work! I plan to *hopefully* upload all of my newer tracks today but I may not get around to it. School has created a IMMENSE workload for me which has basically limited my ability to work on songs by quite a bit. I've been experimenting with FL Studio more than ever trying to learn little quirks that'll make my songs better. So hopefully over time, the quality of my songs will increase.

I haven't made a whole album or anything just a few tracks which I plan to upload (Or have already uploaded, depends when you're reading this XD). Here's what is hopefully a complete list of my new songs and upcoming songs (I've included the genre or the expected genre of the piece plus a small description):

COMPLETED WORKS:

  • Acids and Basses (Dubstep) [Typical wobble-bass dubstep]
  • Avicta's Nest (Drum n' Bass) [Dnb with lots of unique percussion, nature sounds and record needle drops (You'll see when it's uploaded)]
  • Huedan's Blitz (Drum n' Bass) [Dnb with more unique percussion]
  • Science in the House (House) [House. I can't really describe it further than that. Kinda chill and laidback but still groovy... maybe...]

When I say "unique percussion" I'm refering more towards what I think is obscure and unorthodox percussion that isn't typical in songs like guiros, woodblocks, cowbells (not really lol) etc.

WORKS IN PROGRESS:

  • Outsider (Trance) [Creepy music about being an outsider. Currently having trouble with the speech synthesizer :/]
  • Pi (Dance/Trance) [Basically, the main melody is the number pi mapped to a soundboard. So 1 would be C, 2 would be C# etc. Just sorta out of ideas for it]
  • Death's Rule (Drum n' Bass) [Dnb with cowbells and stuff. Kinda stuck here too]

So hopefully the songs that are completed can be uploaded today and hopefully I can work in NG and music composing into my scheduale. I hope to also participate A LOT more in the Review For Review thread - I've got a good idea I want to try out there. That is, if I can manage it, school, life and all things associated with it. I feel exhausted just thinking about it.

Well thanks for reading! I know, it's pretty long. Keep on keepin' on.

My first album is called Conquer the Stars. I've released all 15 out of 16 tracks here on Newgrounds. The reason I haven't posted the 16th is that it's sort of a mash-up of all 15 I've posted here. I'm hesitant on whether or not I should post it here or not. I have a few reasons on why I should, and why I shouldn't post it.

WHY I THINK I SHOULD

  1. I would want feedback
  2. I want to upload all of my songs here on NG
  3. It seems like a good summary of everything I created before staring on NG

WHY I THINK I SHOULDN'T

  1. It's 12:00+ minutes in length
  2. It sort of seems all over the place jumping from melody to melody
  3. It might totally flop

So I'm not sure. Do you think it's worth posting? I need to know. It's been bugging me for a long while and as you can see, I'm kinda on the fence about it. 12:00+ minutes is long but the song is important to me so I dunno. Literally have no freaking clue. Please let me know what you think!

BTW: Any song here on my NG profile that has image art like the one below is part of that album.

Thanks for reading! Keep on keepin' on :)

As you probably know, I'm Yeelp. I'm just a guy who likes making music just like the countless other members here on NG. I might get into game developing but I'm gonna mainly make music. Currently, I have gotten my hands on FL Studio so hopefully something interesting comes out of that
